Is a stair lift viable for your two story home
We all know what a stair chair lift is so I won’t bore you with some innocuous details about how they operate. Rather, I would like to recount a story about my grandmother who was suffering from mobility issues and how we had struggled between our love and loyalty with the obvious monetary considerations about purchasing the stair chair.
Edit this text Born In America AT the turn of the century my Granfather was diagnosed with hernias }loss her with a dangerous limp. As a insecure Italian cleaning woman she went about her life without complaining and raised two children and plenty of grandchildren.
As time went on her mobility began to decrease dramatically and she was now not able to get up and down the stairs without a lot of difficulty. The old brownstone she lived in for fifty years in Brooklyn New York ,which was her safe oasis was now becoming a crutch she could not overcome.
We explored all our options, which included a nursing home all to which she refused in spades. She wanted to remain independent and not have to rely on someone to take care of her. She wanted to stay in her home She wanted to stay in her house because it is where she has lived for fifty years. Right next-door was a church that she went to everyday. The only way for us to honor her wishes was to get her a stair chair lift so that she could get up the stairs.
We contacted several companies that installed stair chair lifts and were moderately surprised at the prices. Because of the layout of the brownstone the cost was going to be very expensive. My grandmother was on a fixed income and couldn’t pay for the stair chair herself.
We made the decision to have the stair chair lift installed and give my grandmother what she longed for, which was to live out the remainder of her life in the home she grew up in and raised a theatre in. I will eternally conceive the look on her face as she realised that she was able to remain where she was.
That stair chair made all the remainder to an old woman who wanted to stay in her home. Money took a backseat to the things that are truly important in your life, like beholding an old woman cry with tears of joy. What would you do faced with the same decision?
